Neuropathic Leg Ulcers

Leg ulcers may occur due to reduced sensory nerve function in the feet or legs. These ulcers usually develop on pressure areas such as the heel or ball of the foot. Diabetes is the most common cause of the poor nerve function. Sometimes, there is also a problem with the arteries, especially if the patient is a smoker. A small proportion of patients may have poor nerve function for other reasons.
